Phil Rowlands

Phil is a screenwriter, author, producer and publisher. He spent several years as an actor before stopping to focus on his writing. Early work included adapting THE MOOMINS for the BBC and radio scripts for commercial radio. He was a series writer on STATION ROAD for BBC Wales, had short stories and plays broadcast, and was a team writer on several animated children’s series for ITV. For S4C, he was co-creator and lead writer on three series of police drama Y GLAS (The Blues) and feature film BYW YN DY GROEN (Crosscurrent), and in 2019 his original four-part drama PILI PALA (Butterfly Breath) was nominated for an RTS award. A co-founder of Funky Medics – a production company creating innovative health messaging – he has produced twenty or so diverse animated/live action films, as well as writing three novels – psychological thrillers SIENA, SINGLE CELL and TIMESLIP – and founding indie publisher Diamond Books. His feature film ECHOES – a trilingual Wales/Manitoba/First Nation co-production – is due to shoot in Canada in 2024/25.
